Shocking and funny 'science-art'

I have been approached by at least ten science artists and leaders of  the sci-art  projects from around the world in the last two months with requests to see their science -art work/ projects and send my opinions on and analyses/reviews of their work. Even though I don't have any time to spare, my enthusiasm and curiosity made me borrow some from tomorrow and venture into the worlds of artists. And what did I experience? Shock, shock, shock and more shock. You will go through the same if…

The power of truth of science-art

Recently one West-based sci-artist friend of mine complained to me that people are not giving funds for sci-art much. "They don't believe us when we tell them... "

"Tell them the truth because majority of the scientists already know the truth", I interrupted her.

She was shocked. "What?! Do you think we are lying?" she asked me.

"No, I don't say that but you are exaggerating things"

"In what way?"

"Read the articles I wrote on this very topic", I told her…

Science and Art - The Right Approach to Creating And Understanding Art Works Based on Science

SCIENCE AND ART – THE RIGHT APPROACH TO CREATING AND

UNDERSTANDING ART WORKS BASED ON SCIENCE

Some time back my mind debated whether I should give importance to visual appeal too in my art work while creating it. These thoughts never crossed my mind when I started my work in the art field. But

they caused ripples in my head when some of my friends – although the number…

What scientists should be cautious about during the interactions with artists

A VIEW ON HOW SCIENTIFIC CREATIVITY DIFFERS FROM ARTISTIC CREATIVITY AND HOW ARTISTS CAN HELP SCIENCE and the people around if they want to BY CHANGING THEIR CREATIVE MECHANISMS

The most erroneous stories are those we think we know best -- and therefore never scrutinize or question. -Stephen Jay Gould, paleontologist, biologist, author (1941-2002)

Scientists and artists are coming together very frequently these days because of the sci-art interactions. And as a keen observer of…

Tall claims and failing proof of science-art interactions!

A VIEW FROM THE WORLD OF SCIENCE

The most erroneous stories are those we think we know best -- and therefore never scrutinize or question. -Stephen Jay Gould, paleontologist, biologist, author (1941-2002)

Tall claims are being made regarding art's contribution to the world of science. It is also being said that the combination of art and science will bring in more development in all the spheres including science and business. However, despite all the positive noises made by the…

ART AND SCIENCE - Why people find Science more appealing than Art

Scientists tell very interesting stories - like "Big Bang" origin of the universe, why the universe is expanding , what can happen to it in the future, how a human brain works, how we - the human beings - have evolved as the  most intelligent forms of life - some with proof and some without it! News papers report them with dedication. Day in and day out the media sings the songs of science's glory. Both children and adults get fascinated by them.

But all this is making some people in…

Art Themes born in a science lab!

Art themes born in a Science lab!

Several people ask me how I get all those ideas to paint. I tell them I get them in my Science Lab.

You can't stop thinking when you are in a lab. If you stop you are dead

as a scientist. Like the…

Science and Art - perfection and imperfection

When we deal with science, everything has to be perfect & stand the test of time. We have to follow the rules strictly here. If we are dealing with a scientific or a technological invention that is not perfect, we won't get the desired results & sometimes we might even have to face risks os even losing lives. Let us take the example of a car that is only 99% perfect. If its steering or brakes don't work properly because they are imperfect, we run a risk while driving such a car. Does…

In the Grip of Discovery and Creativity

Very often we artists will be in a world of our own. When an idea grips us - we feel as if our minds are on fire. Yes, they start burning!

I am in several creative fields. I am also in the field of science which has me completely in its grip. When I want to find out something- for days, months and years I cut off the whole world. I become very absent-minded (my

painting "The mind of a scientist" describes this well. You can see it here:… Continue

Bridging the Gap between Art and Science

Notes by cognitive scientist, poet and historian Piero Scaruffi

for a round table moderated by Leonard Shlain at

at Swissnex in San Francisco on 19/9/2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is art? This is a question that depends on the country and the age in which you live. Art for the Romans was simply praise of the state via engineering. Art for the Greeks was the science of abstract harmony, i.e.… Continue

Science & Art - Reality - Proof & Perception

Earlier I used to wonder why there are different parameters in Science & Art to judge a "GOOD" work. Now, I feel, these are the reasons for the differences:

In Science, a person is treated good & given importance & respect based on his "work" irrespective of his age or experience. Because all scientific work can be proved & all scientific theories can stand the tests of scrutiny. Science is based on proof & reality.

However, in Art a person is treated good in a… Continue
