Gardening is one of the most beneficial and essential practice ever. It is a process of growing and cultivation of plants as a part of Horticulture, on a specific piece of land particularly meant of gardening. Planting trees and plants near the house or around the house makes the house more airy and beautiful. Growing plants are pleasing way to beautify our outdoor and indoor spaces and the practice of gardening is increasing popularly with each year that passes. There are many different types of gardening that includes various techniques, location, styles and types of plants. The five different types of gardening that illustrates the age – old pass time are container gardening, raised bed gardening, indoor gardening, water gardening and community gardening.

 

Container gardening means gardening or cultivating and growing plants in a container so that it is convenient to carry plants inside the house during the winter season. These types of plants can be placed where you like such as on roof of the house, in sunny windows or on balconies. Container gardening reduces the problem of soil-borne diseases and weeds, and also gives the gardener ultimate control over sunlight, temperature and moisture. Raised Bed Gardening is most likely to the container gardening, it allows gardeners to grow a variety of edible and medicinal plants on the top of most barren surfaces, from concrete slabs to rock-hard clay and provides better drainage system. This type of gardening often suited for elderly or disabled gardeners, subsequently they can be erected high enough for one to remain seated comfortably while gardening, eradicating strain on the spine and joints.

 

            Indoor Gardening brings the beauty of nature inside the house. Many people grow house plants to enhance the beauty of their house and improve air quality. Spider plant, peace lily, snake plant, dracaena and weeping fig, bamboo or reed palm, golden pathos, Chinese evergreen are the common house plants. Water Gardens are specially made to include aquatic plants and fish. The basic requirements are potted aquatic plants (combination of emergent plants, floaters and submerged plants), fresh water, and water tight container, and pea gravel. Dwarf papyrus, water lettuce wild celery and water hyacinth are common aquatic plants. Community Gardens are public spaces that are utilized to grow plants and trees in order to freshen the environment, beautify the surrounding and also for other purpose. These plants are quite beneficial to us as they give the food production. Many of these gardens are made up of herb, native plants or ornamental plants often as a setting of sculptures.   

 

Certain tips that should be followed for the best gardening result are: know your soil type, use organic fertilizer, follow fertilizer direction, keep soil mulched, plant similar species together, identify pests and diseases, pruning shrubs, flowering plants, watering, and composting.  Plants and trees keep our environment fresh and purify the air, they are most valuable to the human life and hence gardening should be given importance. Start planting at this point if you have not done still.
