India is losing one of its great painters to retirement. Eminent painter Mr. Sayed Haider Raza has decided to stop painting professionally. The France-based painter, who was one of the original founders of the Indian Progressive Art Movement, has decided to give up his career as a professional by this year. Mr. Raza is exhibiting his last show in London, The Five Rays of Raza, along with his friend Maqbool Fida Hussain. Raza , who lives in Paris & Corbio in Southern France, is clear that he will not stop painting. He will continue to paint for himself.
It took 30 years of research for the eminent painter Raza to know what art is and another 15-20 years to include Indian iconography into his painting. He is starting a foundation for art, Ekatraa , in New Delhi.

Yes ! I read it also. The Old Generation of Indian Artists is going, with the sole exception of Husain. Raza is retiring. Tyeb Mehta is gone! So has Manjit Bawa. Souza's creativity is declining. The following generations lack their fire and conviction! Sad!
