When money defines who is a good artist and what is a good work of art

where is the art world headed?

With the festive and holiday season upon us, my inbox is being flooded with mails from art galleries around the world asking me to buy the 'best art in the market'. Best art in the market?! Who decides it?

"Amazing art",  "Mind blowing art", "Wonderful art" are some of the other superlatives used to influence me to buy. How do you define these things in art?

I got an answer to my questions when the same art galleries sent me messages asking me to pay money to promote my work. Yes, if I pay money to these galleries - both on and off line, my work will be promoted as good and perhaps even as the best art in the world by these people.

Isn't there room for merit, I mean real merit? And hard work in the art world?

Artists, I solicit your thoughts and opinions on this aspect of the art world.

I agree! There is no merit now for certain artists. "art" is very subjective. How can we define what is good and what is not? We are all in the same boat. Someone who cannot play music cannot be in a concert, but someone who cannot paint can!!!! Do you know what I mean?

Thank you for your reply, Christine. In a concert  a person who cannot play a violin well may not get a place, but in pop, rap or other forms of modern music, anybody can become a star!
