A painting by French impressionist artist Edgar Degas was stolen from a museum in France on 30th Dec., 2009. The painting, named the "The Chorus" was worth $43 million.
The work belonged to the Musee d'Orsay in Paris and had been loaned to Marseille's Cantini museum for an exhibition. The disappearance of this very expensive painting was discovered when the museum opened on 31st Dec.

Very sad! I had seen another version (smaller size - probably done as prepartion of the final work) of this painting in The Chicago Museum of Fine Art. It is really a beautiful work
Thanks Pierre for this information. Now the corrected price of the pastel work, "The Chorus," was worth an estimated 800,000 euros ($1.15 million).
