Art Therapy is practiced in Indian jails. It was found that painting makes convicts in India calmer & disciplined. It helped them restore their balance. Creative workshops were conducted at Delhi's Tihar Jail & Maharastra ( a state in India ) jails. Convicts & some of the undertrials showcased their works at Mumbai's Bajaj Art Gallery recently.

I worked in jails and mental hospitals with juveniles and in mental hospitals for years, before I became a regular teacher in Special Education for the New York Schools. I think I helped many young people. It was particularly wrenching to work with older mentally ill clients. These were generally people with no social skills at all and who were often very talented artists
Glad to hear that , Frank. I too worked for a social organization & taught street children & adults when I was doing my Ph.D. They used to run away every second day & it was a challenge to teach these people.
