An array of striking paintings has been whitewashed out of existence at a temple in Tamilnadu, India.
These were images of he coronation of Lord Rma, the Devastanam, Garuda, a wrestler fighting an elephant & so on. Estimates put their antiquity at 150 to 250 years.
More recently, murals of the late Nayak period were whitewashed in another temple. Over the past several years , similar mural master pieces have been whitewashed at the Meenakshi temple in Madurai & other temples in Tiruchi, Kumbakonam, Kancheepuram.
All these are being destroyed in the name of renovation of the Temples!
