The ING Discerning Eye invites artists to submit works for its annual exhibition in 2009. Sponsored by ING Wholesale Banking, this is an exhibition of small works independently selected by six prominent figures from the art world: two artists, two collectors and two critics. Among the selectors this year are Financial Times Art Critic, Jackie Wullschlager; Keeper of the Word and Image Department at the V&A, Julius Bryant; Royal Academician, Gus Cummins; artist Lincoln Seligman and collector Peter Bowles.
Each selector curates one section of the exhibition, drawing their own selection from works submitted by the public and the works of artists they have personally invited to exhibit. The uniqueness of having each work chosen by an eminent individual, unlike in a group selected show, has earned the exhibition an excellent reputation among art lovers and collectors alike. The works of lesser-known artists are given the opportunity to hang alongside the work of more established artists, helping to connect hundreds of new artists with new audiences.
Artists may submit up to six works. Painting, prints, drawing, photography and sculpture are accepted, the only criteria being that, firstly, works should not exceed 20 inches in their largest dimension and, secondly, all works must be for sale.
The London submission days are 4th and 5th September 2009 at the Mall Galleries, SW1. Please contact Parker Harris for information regarding regional collection points.
