In what has been termed an unusual rock art discovery, petroglyphs, which are engravings made with a hard tool, have been found on the slab-stones of a dolmen for the first time in Tamilnadu, India. The dolmen, which is in a collapsed state, belongs to the megalithic period (circa 1000 BC to 300 BC) This dolmen is circular in shape & had a slanting roof made of several slab-stones. The dolmen could have been the home of a tribal chief.

THERE ARE MANY MEGALITHIC BURIAL SITES ALL OVER SOUTHERN INDIA SPECIALLY IN ANDHRA PRADESH. ONE COULD EASILY SPOT THESE SITES BY LOOKING AT THE ARRANGEMENT OF BOULDER IN CIRCULAR MANNER.HOWEVER THESE SITES ARE IN REMOTE AREAS AND NOT EASILY ACCESSSIBLE. I HAVE SEEN MANY PHOTOGRAPHS IN ARCHELOGICAL JOURNALS. HOPE THEY ARE PRESERVED IN A PROPER SCIENTIFIC MANNER FOR OUR FUTURE GENERATIONS.

Yes, Mr. Guha, due to ignorance of people in tribal areas & villages can't recognize these historical sites when they are found. Therefore they get destroyed unless & until some scientists recognize their importance & bring it to the notice of Archeology Department.
