Scholars at Visva Bharati's Rabindra Bhavan have stumbled upon a treasure trove. Sixteen poems of Tagore, never published before, have been found tucked among thousands of manuscripts in the archives of Rabindra Bhavan. Catalogued in the 1940s, these had escaped attention thus far.
There is more. As footnote to each of these poems, Tagore has hinted at 16 of his paintings that they corelated to. These were painted much before the poems were written. They were in a notebook & Tagore had hand written these poems. In his own handwriting he christened it:
" Rabindranath's poems based on his paintings".
VB is bringing out a collection of these unpublished poems along with the paintings in a book called " Namhara Rekhapath Beye". Of the paintings that correspond to these poems, five are sceneries, five are female faces & six male faces. While all these paintings had been published
time & again, for some reason best known to the poet, these poems had never been published.
