For centuries, the identity of Leonardo da Vinci's masterpiece Mona Lisa has been debated, with rumours ranging from the Renaissance painter's mother to a disguised self portrait.
Now, Italian scientists want to exhume the remains of da Vinci to reconstruct his face in a bid to solve the mystery behind his famous painting. A team from National Committee for cultural Heritage has in fact sought permission to open the tomb in which da Vinci is believed to lie at Amboise castle in Loire valley where he died in 1519, aged 67.
If they manage to find his skull, they can rebuild Leonardo's face & compare with Mona Lisa.
Talks about he exhumation with French cultural officials  and the owners of the chateau have resulted in an agreement in principle, according to the Italian team & the project could receive formal permission this summer.
The church in which Leonardo was buried was destroyed after the French revolution of 1789. The remains were reburied in the castle's smaller chapel of Saint-Hubert in 1874 beneath an inscription describing them as "presumed" to be master's.
Team leader Mr. Silvano Vincenti said they would verify the remains of Leonardo's, by using carbon dating & comparing DNA samples from bones and teeth to those of his several male descendants buried in Bologna in Italy.
There aren't any clues in the history books, but they will be able to find out if da Vinci died of disease such as syphilis or tuberculosis, because that shows up in the bones.

Another story to emphasize the relationship between art & science.

Just when one thinks human beings could not possibly do anything more stupid you read something like this.
Show these reported World Art experts a painting, Note; a Painting of a Woman and some idiot says, " no, maybe ita really a painting of a Man" and they all doubt what their eyes tell them. No , there is more..these fools now want to dig up the Artiest grave to inspect the skull of the Artist to compare it to the Painting.
Think about this for a moment; Little Girls in Calcutta India are forced into Prostitution by the age of 13 because their families do not have 10 Rupees, or 25 cents while the NATIONAL COMMITTEE for HERITAGE will spend Thousands upon Thousands of Dollars to rebuild de Vinci's face to see how it compares with the Mona Lisa, soooo we will all know if this Painting of a Woman is really a painting of a Woman. Wow, knowing this I know I will be able at last to sleep better. These people are serious ...they are serious...they are serious !!!

What this Story is Actually must be about is , if that, if this is the thinking of our Scientific Minds today, then how there must be hope for every Baboon in Africa...
Yes, this world does all weird things. What happens in a poor or developing country goes unnoticed most of the time in developed countries. I am glad you thought about the poor. Some scientists also do sensational things to get recognised. These scientists want to ride piggy-back on the popularity of Mona Lisa painting to get to the summit of name & fame.
Having said that, I also want to add all scientific research is useful in one way or the other. Don't blame science & scientists for the ills of the society. It depends on the people who use it. I painted a picture on this theme. Here is my explanation & picture:

Choice is yours ( Title of this painting)
Description:
Some people complain that science also brings with it a few bad things like commercial GM crops, nuclear bombs etc. along with the good it does to the mankind. But according to the scientific community – science is like a knife. A knife can be used to cut throats and spill blood. It can also be used for good purposes like cutting fruits and vegetables. It depends on the person who uses it. Likewise science (represented by a test tube in the painting) can also be used for the benefit of living beings as well as for their destruction. Which way it goes is in the hands of the person who uses it. The choice is definitely yours, Homo sapiens.
I only bring the news that explores the relationship between art & science.
It is for the people who are reading the news to come to conclusions whether what people are doing is good or not.

I love this Philosophy;" no one is ever to Blame". What would we do without Science , very true nothing wrong with Science. Without Science the Mankind would still be groping in the Dark Ages, howling at the Moon. Note however, because Great Art is sometimes weird and unusual does not mean that all weird and unusual Are is Great Art. Like wise because Science may seem weird and unusual and even crazy is practice or theory ...ect.
My issue is with blatant stupidity . " The Emperor has no Close ". I have heard this de Vinci , Mona Lisa subliminal self-portrait nonsense many, many times. Perhaps Picasso's Crying Woman is also actually another self-portrait....better dig him up too... Maybe we should dig them all up, lets dig up all their models to just to be sure. This is what I call George Bush thinking . 9 Afghans fly a plane into the WTC. (maybe) so....lets attack Iraq and kill 225,ooo Iraqis.
What to hell does this have to do with Art, your asking yourself by now.. Reflect, the definition of an Artist;" is one who seeks the truth". " The World is a dangerous place to live. Not because of the things that people do but rather because of people who do nothing about it". As Artist you have a duty to THINK and speak out and expose the Truth..
Lastly; Does anybody really care what Leonardo died of.. we should care about what is killing people right now.

I understood your point fully. Microbes & diseases caused by them are one of the reasons why people die. Interestingly, I work on toxins that are produced by some microorganisms in food & how to stop & control them.
Now you cannot say I don't care about these things!
