A 1955 untitled painting by MF Husain was sold for $ 1, 058,500, the highest price of the day and over five times of what was estimated at an auction at New York by Sotheby's. Indian artist Majit Bawa's untitled painting sold for $ 602,500, double the presale high estimate of $ 200/300,000.
The new record was set at the Indian and South East Asian Art auctions in New York where Sotheby's sold 74 Modern Indiain paintings for $ 5.4 millions. A staggering 97% sold by value rate - these results show the appetite for good quality works with distinguished provenance offered at attractive estimates.
Sotheyby's is the world second oldest International auction house.
