Don't expect others to understand you the way you want. Because they can't, well, most of the time!
Q: Dr. Krishna, how does it feel when people can't understand your world and words?
Krishna:
Most often, not even my close friends and relatives who are not from the scientific field cannot understand the exact meaning of my words.
Not even ordinary words, leave alone scientific words.
What they understand is not what I say!
What they say as replies and do as responses after listening to my words really surprise me most of the time.
What a person can perceive depends on several things.
What they analyse my words with can be assessed by their replies, responses and reactions. When they are not up to the mark, I know I cannot expect the right ones from them.
The research papers I read on this topic help me in understanding this mis-perception and I try to understand their states of mind and feel sorry for them.
But when they misunderstand you and blame you for their inadequacies in understanding, I learnt to just shut off my mind and mouth and let them have their own interpretations of what they say. Because when they don't have the right stuff to analyse and understand something, no amount of argument and explanation can help.
Not all human beings have the same capacity to understand things in the way they should. According to research, even a small word like a 'bird' can bring innumerable perceptions to different people. And they don't even know this!
Scientists think it can explain a lot of disagreements people have. It’s an approach to understanding why people talk past each other. Being more aware of how often we might not be comprehending one another may help us get on the same page when it matters.
To make matters worse, People can't understand even simple things geniuses and scientists speak. That is why most of the time people ridicule and criticise them. This shows ordinary peoples' cognitive inadequacy. And that is why scientists try to stay away from common people most of the time, to avoid clashes.
Where do these differences come from? They boil down to a person’s life experiences for most people. Their education levels, general knowledge, what they read, or know, don't matter, if the person cannot " think critically ".
Only 'critical thinkers' can understand things exactly the way they should be understood. Others can't.
So we think this is a weird world, smile and move on.
Don't worry, if you cannot understand me, I can understand!
