Krishna: Yes, I face them too. Lots of them. If you approach men for some help, information, or discussions, plain talk, not only other people watching you, but even some men who you approach try to create difficulties for you. Women have to face these extra stupid situations. I get mad sometimes. Keeping ourselves safe drains our energies.
This is quite a balancing act. You have to move forward, at the same time resist these forces that try to knock you down. Even some women intentionally or unintentionally help these stupid men. Predatory behaviour by men in powerful positions is enabled by a work environment that turns a blind eye to it. The price of speaking up against harassment can be high. That price could include a hostile work environment and even the loss of a job, promotions, nominations, particularly if the perpetrator is the boss or in high positions to influence the outcome; mental stress and loss of health; and an expensive and long legal battles, 'moral stamps' imposed on you - all make you look extremely bad.
Do you know sometimes you would be asked to even wipe out the evidence as a compromise to progress forward? I was asked that!
Men play every trick in the book to stop you reporting, erase evidence, and move forward with the case.
It causes you tremendous stress, mental pain, fatigue and you find this extremely harassing. It will be a loss of your time and energy. Even the justice system will take its own time making you more vulnerable. When women complain, it most often comes at huge personal cost to them.
Harassment by powerful, entitled men is endemic and exists throughout the world.
But what shocks you the most is when noted achievers jump to support the accused. You will be shocked at the level of support these men get; everyone knows what is happening, but they either remain silent or continue to actively support them.
Ideally, those in positions of influence, and actually anybody with a conscience, should maintain a neutral stand even if they are good friends with the accused. We must be able to tell right from wrong. Society must remember that it takes everything for a woman to speak out against any type of harassment. The argument, “But I know him and he never did this to me,” is completely flawed. The fact that he may have been ultra-saintly with you does not mean he may not have pounced on other women.
There is very little awareness of the issue, and victim shaming makes it worse. As a society we have to shift the focus to the actions of the accused rather than on the woman who was at the receiving end.
But never ever suffer in silence. Stand up for your dignity and fight, for you are being wronged.
There will be a price for speaking up. Expect isolation and hostility at work and in the societies you live in if you have complained against the top boss or a powerful person.
Expect delays and frustration in the legal framework if you choose this path.
But don’t let such things bog you down.
Be a little smart. Smarter than men. Try to learn all the mental weaknesses of these predatory men and use them against them. If they try to play games, you too can!
Do you know only weak men can make such stupid advances? Strong men always respect women. And weak men can be dealt with the strength of your mental power easily.
Most men get intimidated by me - by my knowledge, mental strength and a no-nonsense attitude.
But .... I still face some problems with a few men who never learn anything from the lessons I teach.
In such situations, make yourself aware of all your options so you can make informed decisions. Start planning on alternative options, plan B,C,D, .....
Take the help of your friends, family, relatives and well wishers.
Most importantly stay away from predatory and toxic people as far as possible for your own mental well-being and never ever stop moving forward despite these difficulties. Your progress is more important. Your ambitions, goals, and life's purposes and the will to break all barriers to achieve them is extremely vital for women to progress. Be strong. Your own strength should make these men/women think twice/several times to harass you. Girls and women, reach such a state and position that will intimidate men like hell to touch you even with a barge pole*.
*Not because you are 'bad' but because you are 'strong'.
