Critical Thinking

(Q:  When there is a dispute between your husband and parents, whose side should you take and who should you  support?

Krishna: This question is a bit tricky. Usually ordinary people try to support others depending on their biases.
However, a critical thinking person never does that. He supports the correct position, not persons.
So think which position is correct. Support only the right position. But how do you decide what is the right position without biases interfering your thought process? By the way of critical thinking!
Now how do you think critically? Like this: Critical Thinking  )

Q:

Krishna: Karma is just a belief.

Your friend is good. He is compassionate too. That is his mental state.

We are what our biochemistry dictates. Even our mental states.

If he is permanently disabled (due to a medical condition), that is his physical state. That again depends on the body's biochemistry.

If his disability is due to an accident, that is a chance that became a reality.

Karma or this person's actions earlier or in previous birth ( to those who believe in them) has nothing to do with it.

Many good people face bad events in their life and bad people might face good ones.

Good and bad are what you think based on the conditions your culture or religion or family imposed on you. This universe doesn't care about them and which mass of atoms gets what or feels or suffers what.

It is a random chance.

This universe doesn't make any discrimination like that.

Fairness? Does the universe care ( about your morals)? NO!

Q: Why are a lot of Indians more concerned about few deaths somewhere in the middle East when thousands of people are dying each day due to COVID-19 in India and a lot of those people didn't even get proper treatment?

Krishna: Middle East or India, it doesn’t matter. Lives are lives and are precious everywhere. A life lost anywhere in the world is a tragedy and we should do our best to stop it from happening.

Have a universal outlook. Narrow thinking is not good.

Q: What’s the worse could happen if we could read people’s mind?

Krishna: It will be highly uncomfortable, especially if their thoughts are negative and deal with you.

You want to resist their deceit which creates some sort of friction and you can’t deal directly with the person in that situation. You can’t accuse the person just based on your reading and without direct evidence, although you very well know you are right.

You try your best to stop the person despite that, and getting the end result you want.

It is like dancing on a sharp knife! Knowing the person’s complete mental make up helps you to some extent.

The situation leaves some sort of bitterness in the other person which makes you feel uneasy.

Believe me reading minds is not a good situation to be in because it makes your mind very stressful.

Q: How do people confuse between belief and superstition?

Krishna:

Superstition: a widely held but irrational belief in supernatural influences, especially as leading to good or bad luck, or a practice based on such a belief.

http://Definitions from Oxford Languages

Belief: an acceptance that something exists or is true, especially one without proof.

http://Definitions from Oxford Languages

Aren’t superstitions beliefs too? Then where is the confusion?

I think you have beliefs like religion and God in your mind when you used the word belief. But they are irrational too when there is no genuine evidence and when they were shown not true.

People used to think, and some people still think, day and night happen because the Sun God moves in his chariot of seven horses. That is religion based. Science proved it wrong.

Then some people (creationists) still think God created human beings as they are and refuse scientific theory of evolution. Isn’t this irrationality based on religion and God?

There isn’t any difference between baseless belief and irrational thinking.

Closeness to the religious places goes in line with lower superstition. On the other hand, a generally higher perceived religiosity increases superstition. Furthermore, there is the tendency that people without a religious denomination have the lowest belief in superstition.

For a rational thinker, both belief and superstition belong to the same category.

But others justify their beliefs by pretending there is a lot of difference between these two.

Q: Can mystical experience be used as a justification for the existence of God?

Krishna: People imagine, hallucinate, and interpret things and experiences to suit their biases.

Then there are collective illusions and mass delusions during religious gatherings to deal with (1).

How can these things justify the presence of God?

If there is anything that can definitely establish a fact, it is the scientific method. All the other things are deceptive.

Krishna:

Q: Why do bride's parents wash the groom's feet in Indian marriages - some say because the groom is equal to God Vishnu, if that is the case, the bride becomes Godess Laxmi and even the groom's parents should wash her feet.

Krishna: A very good question. This tradition shows the patriarchal mindset of people and those who follow the culture that originated from this mind set.
People can interpret anything in the way they want. I am sure those who follow these customs will support it.
But we have abandoned it long back in our family.
My grandfather was a social reformer and he refused to follow this custom in his life time and we don't perform this ritual or any of the ones that portray patriarchal mindset.
I think I am lucky to be born in such a family.

Q: What is the danger of half of knowledge?

Krishna: You suffer from a thing called partial picture paralysis. And you might also get the Dunning-Kruger effect.

You try to connect things that don’t have any relationship. And don’t see the connections that actually exist.

You imagine things in a strange way.

A small amount of knowledge can mislead people into thinking that they are more expert than they really are, which can lead to mistakes being made.

You cannot process the information you get in the right way with little knowledge.

And half knowledge can put you in a dangerous situation …..

Q: I have loved a boy for 3 years. He is also madly in love with me, but now I feel I deserve someone who is very good looking and smart and has a good job. What should I do?

Krishna: So yours is not true love. Maybe just a time pass mistake.

First learn what true love is, then you can decide what you should really do.

Q: What is God from a scientific perspective?

Krishna :You asked about scientific perspective. Does God has evidence? NO!

Then how can you say GOD exists?

So from a scientific point of view, you cannot confirm that GOD exists.

So it is just peoples’ imagination that such an entity exists. Many in the world of science think man invented GOD and religion

1. to meet his emotional needs, gaining mental strength if he is weak.

2. to explain things that are still can’t be explained using scientific method

3. to fill the gaps (using unverified methods) in our understanding of the universe

4. to gain power and money

5. to hoodwink people and keep them under his control

6. to keep away from things he fears would disrupt his world and way of thinking!
