SCI-ART LAB

Science, Art, Litt, Science based Art & Science Communication

Q: When you are doing so many things, how do you decide which task is more important?

Krishna: There are several half written stories in my cupboard.

I met one of my professors  sometime back. When I told him about my incomplete stories, he said, "Forget about them, Krishna. Anybody can write ordinary stories. Even an uneducated house wife can do that.

But only Krishna can write science stories.  Only Krishna can do science communication in the way it should be done, in a way people can understand and relate to.

Only Krishna can build bridges between the scientific world and ordinary world in a creative way.

Only Krishna can help people in building their scientific knowledge in the right way.

We don't want to lose this special Krishna to ordinary tasks".

I was overwhelmed by my professors confidence in me.

"Isn't there anybody else like me?", I asked him.

Then he said, "Show me someone who can communicate science through art, literature, philosophy  text, electronic media, lectures in meetings, debates on TV, and who could answer any Q related to science with ease and perfection. Show me another Krishna.

You can't! You are unique. Don't waste your knowledge and talents on ordinary things".

(I felt very embarrassed to tell about this meeting with my professor  but after thinking a lot I thought it highlights some important points that must be told, and I apologize for doing the same)

I received several messages from a researcher sometime back asking me to communicate his work. I was extremely busy then. And I requested him to approach other people. But he waited till I found time and told me he wanted only me to do his work.

I don't want to repeat his exact words again here because that sounds like another 'beating my own drum'.

All my friends and  colleagues too ask me to do only science related tasks.

Why did I tell these things?

Because these people told me what is more important and what is not. People themselves are guiding me and telling me what they want from me more.

So science is my first priority. Everything I do must be related to science. Research, communication, art, literature, story telling, lecturing, debating, writing, all must deal with science.

I love science more than anything else and it gives me great pleasure and satisfaction to deal with it.

I can think about other things, if - and that is a big IF- some time  is left for other things in my life.

Science is more important to everybody in this world. Without it our universe can't exist.

So how can anybody put anything else before it?
