Art is a friend of the human mind! Yes. That is why more and more people are using art for their well being.
When a person's mind is in a stressed state, because of personal problems, physical disabilities, medical conditions, learning inadequacies, research has found that ART can be used as a catalyst to work magic because it makes cure and relief possible. Art Therapy became a "booster dose" for modern medicine. When combined with medicine, art forms a powerful healing tool.
The emotions felt by a depressed mind are encoded through colour, composition and conveyed in the form of a message to the outer world and makes the creator of art releaved. It works as an outlet for the accumulated steam. A person who is not creative can also get benefited just by seeing, listening to or reading works of art - as they are associated with emotions that can be related to every heart - and get relief from pains and problems.
Story telling, poetry, music, dance, visual arts, painting, sculpture and all the things that are associated with creativity can unite body, mind and soul and bring a positiveness both for the creator and viewer/listener/reader and heal the persons.
Scientific studies show that art heals by changing a person's attitude and in turn his physiology. It changes the mind from a stressed state to a relaxed one by diverting the attention, bringing new thoughts and meaning to life's problems and changing his perception of the world. This in turn affects a person's nervous system, harmonal balance, brain neuro transmitters and immune system - transforming him into a healthy being again.
So what is the antidote for blues? All the colours in this beautiful world!
