Where are the top Artists?
Why don't artist networks have famous artists? I have searched most of the artist networks on line and found only upcoming & new artists there. We don't see any great names on these networks. Are these networks only for new & upcoming artists? Wouldn't it be nice if the ones on the top of great artists lists too joined the artist networks and guide the young & upcoming artists on how to do good works & succeed in the art world?

Thanks for your comments, Ninon. People in third world countries have less facilities than you people in the first world. We have to struggle a lot for doing even a small thing here. It wastes a lot of our time. So not many do digital art here. It becomes difficult for people here to pay in dollars to even promote themselves in the West. I would have done better had I been fluent in English. I would have done better had I all the facilities you have. But still I try to do my best with the small opportunities I have. I try to help others here too.

Also, I think that a very small fraction of those on these Ning type networks do more than navel gaze and hope someone notices them. I would say that of 1000 people (just throwing out a number) that perhaps 50 people (at the very most) make meaningful connections. I think too that famous artists would tend to write a book and sell their information rather than share it for free. However....just because someone is not famous does not mean that they are not good...simple not yet discovered! Many artists are dead before someone actually notices them. A very few have been recognized in life....like Picasso. Most excellent artists are usually trail blazers and visionaries and create a style that takes the society at large awhile to understand or accept.
As I said...there are some very good people on your site and they could share a lot of insight. One of my favorite it PAZ. Digital art is in its infancy at this point, but I would say that he is extremely gifted in what he does. But, I have to say, on the sites I have been on here that I can find only 2-3 people per blog site that are exceptional in their work. Actually, it is hard to find a good blog. Yours is one of the better ones!

Ninon, First world is the Capitalist world -this group consists of the Rich Western countries. The second world is the earlier communist block of USSR & its allies. The third world is the world of poor or developing countries.
I am happy you know about the problems we face. I hope & wish all your dreams come true. And thanks for your offer to help us. I really appreciate that.

Back to your original question...of the Ning networks and why there are not famous artist on here like one might wish...is because of having their own publicists etc. I am speaking of the Ning network as a communication medium and its technology. It has its benefits and problems. It does have advantages because it IS free and allows people to have a website when they might not be able to technically or financially have one.
Considering my past I know one thing for sure.....you can take two rocks and make fire. I think that you can do a whole lot with a little if you have the talent.
I've seen in other areas of the media that it takes a bit of "being in the right place at the right time" and no one can quite define where that is exactly! People never expected to succeed have and those who should have didn't.
As to yourself Krishna....you are doing a terrific thing here. Perhaps you don't realize how interesting and inspiring this is....and I think you are going to find yourself very satisfied with your work and art in the end.
As to Paz.....sure...I am prejudiced. I am involved in advanced technology and from strictly a technology perspective his style is astounding in the area of digital art. BUT...he doesn't know that either OR appreciate his fan base ;) ALAS!
What I CAN promise is that you are both on my "radar" of life and I'll do what I can to advance both of your projects and talent in everyway I can. I really hope one day to be a zillionairess and some of that money (some day) I am going to use to promote the projects and people I find interesting. For now....I work and contribute and give of what I have. This is all any of us can do in life...give what we have and hope it is enough.
As to the whole term "top" artists.....what is a "top artist?" I suppose someone who is known....but that doesn't always mean GOOD.
Success is also not satisfaction.

I fully agree, Ninon. Quantity is not quality. India is still a developing country. We face a lot of problems at the same time we have the capability of overcoming them. We are mentally very strong. We also have a good support system - we have a joint family system where everybody helps everybody. That is what makes us go ahead with all our inadequacies.

To sum up what I am trying to say, I am not sure that America could produce a character like Gandhi. So, perhaps your idea of America is a little overrated. Each culture has unique and special gifts to offer even if some gifts and skills are not as valued by a society. Sometimes when we don’t have much we do much more with it than someone with more means could. Having a lot doesn’t mean one does a lot. Quantity is not quality.

Yup!-I am doing the best I can with you, doc, yer maybe too young!-just joking, but if I were a great artist this is what I would be doing! Um-can you tell me just WHO the great artists are that you are talking about? I don't mean to be so ignorant, but that is exactly the case, I just got television back in my home, and am just now breaking into this field of study.(my art) When I get a camera fixed, I will put up some of my earlier work for you, maybe on my site.....Jeff

The Top artists in India never join these networks! Okay for example people consider Damien Hurst as a top artist. But do you find his name on any of these networks? Some say Damien is just an ordinary artist. Charles Saatchi branded him great & the world followed him. Are you a top artist too? When I reach the summit, I will still run Art Lab, Jeff, if I am still alive then! However, I still have to find my Charles Saatchi.

Do you have pics of their work? I have noticed you quote both those guys in your posts! And in my opinion, ANYONE here, whether they paint at this moment or not could be a top artist, it just takes work, which I am beginning to feel is a calling of mine, now that I have met a few friends, like Nick, who inspire me to WORK!

I feel there is no better or worse.. Everyone is good enough for his own attitude.. and Blessed are those who can accept and praise the others .. evn though they are not perfect ...and my dear sis .. you are one of them .. so i answer for this question... Everyone is good :) so everywhere u can find one good artist who is good for something
