Van Gogh’s letters: the definitive edition
The publication next week of the complete letters of the artist is a distinguished scholarly achievement

By Martin Bailey |

The new edition of Van Gogh’s letters represents a magnificent achievement. To be published in six volumes, on 7 October, the text runs to nearly 1 million words, with over 4,000 illustrations. It is the culmination of a 15-year project at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
All the letters reflect Van Gogh's turbulent life.

I don't like Van Gogh. Art should be for pleasure - not transmit pain! Have you read his Biography "Lust for Life" by Irving Stone?
Oh, my God! Please don't hate anybody like that. One of my articles " A masterpiece in my opinion " is about to be published soon. As soon as it is published, I will post it here too. Please read it. Then you will have a better understanding of pain. What others write about famous people need not always paint correct pictures about them.
Only you can understand yourself better not your Biographer! I don't see any pain in van Gogh's pictures! Only his life was painful. I have great sympathy for van Gogh. I can understand his pain & why he went into depression. And if I ask you - have your ever listened to the song "Vincent" by Don McLean? Please listen to it. You will understand Van Gogh in a better way if you do so.
