"Appear weak when you are strong, and strong when you are weak"
    - Sun Tzu, The Art of War

Learning and liberty march hand in hand, or they do not march at all: the one is the condition of the other.

Indicators arise from values (we measure what we care about), and they create values (we care about what we measure). Indicators are often poorly chosen […] The choice of indicators is a critical determinant of the behavior of a system. .. with regard to value systems in science... by
American environmental scientist and thinker, Donella Meadows.

"On this road called life, you have to take the good with the bad, smile with the sad, love what you got, and remember what you had. Always forgive, but never forget, learn from your mistakes, but never forget. People change. Things go wrong. But just remember, the ride goes on."

There is a magnet in your heart that will attract true friends. That magnet is unselfishness, thinking of others first; when you learn to live for others, they will live for you.

The only way to understand the other side is to GO to the other side — and take a walk!
You will never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view.
You're living in this world right here and right now. Make *that* better.
There are some kind of men who are so busy worrying about the next world, they have never learned to live in this one.
The simplest gesture can be the hugest gift.
We are paying the highest tribute you can pay a man. We trust him to do right. It is that simple.
Privilege is real. From race to baking cakes. Sometimes you're born into it, and sometimes you're born with it.
We know all men are not created equal in the sense some people would have us believe. What justice we expect in in the world and the kind of justice we get if we don't acknowledge some human imperfections and biases. It's so relevant.
Sometimes the truth can't save you.
    - From the Classic 'To Kill a Mockingbird'

The secret of success is the consistency to pursue.

"[This is not the age of reason], it's the era of flummery, and the day of the devious approach. Reason's gone into the backrooms where it works to devise means by which people can be induced to emote in the desired direction." - Wyndham, John (1960), The Trouble With Lichen, Penguin, p. 91.

The secret of success is the consistency to pursue.

"Love people for who they are, and not for who you want them to be."

"Shine with all you have. When someone tries to blow you out, just take their oxygen and burn brighter."

    -- Katelyn S. Irons

We will be there for one another as fellow members of humanity, in the finest sense of the word."

    -- Goran Persson

Go ahead. Fall down. The world looks different from the ground.

Warren Buffett: “It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it. If you think about that, you’ll do things differently.”

    Reasoning is of two types:

    1. Unbiased and neutral

    2. Biased that follows confirmation bias

You will never, ever beat somebody who does not reason well and follow the second type. Because s/he refuses to see things in the way they are! That sucks, it really does, but it is a bare and undeniable fact. Because of that, it's going to hurt, but you'll find that it's forgotten fairly quickly.

Just walk away from people who does the second type of reasoning;  Never continue the argument with them as soon as you find what type of reasoning they are following. Once you've satisfied yourself that neutral reason is not going to suffice, you're done. You don't even have to announce, "I see you're unreasonable, and I've done all I can." Just walk away. Period.

Because they say: Never argue with a fool. He will not only bring you down to his level but also beat you with his experience in foolishness!

    Traits of mentally strong people:
Self-reliance: They don't rely on others to solve - or own - their problems.
Instinctiveness: Often driven by an inner force, belief that what they are doing is right and thus a deep trust of their instincts.
Talent: Take away everything they've done and have and they could do it again because they have talents, natural skills.
Adaptable: They welcome change and the challenges it brings. Or at least aren't panicked by it.
Fearless: They take risks and don't wallow in failure, every failure is a chance to learn more and do better the next time.
Forgiveness: Forgiveness is healing, without healing your mind suffers. This is a crucial aspect of mentally tough individuals.
Kindness: Generosity to others, treating people well, even putting them before yourself takes enormous strength because when you do it, you make yourself more vulnerable.
Self-awareness: Mentally strong people know who they are, what they are about, where they stand, it allows them to thrive even when nothing else seems to be going right.
Self-confidence: After self-awareness comes self-confidence. A belief that "I can do this." Hope in one's self, is another way to say it.
Patience: Mentally strong people are not, by any means, all of these things all the time. Often they are the opposite, but they know they will once again return to a place of thriving, even when it's bleak.

Family isn't always blood. It is the people in your life who want you in their's.

The ones who accept you for who you are. The ones who would do anything to see you smile and who love you no matter what.

Brave men are the strongest walls of all, and no Fortress can stand if Men desert it -  Tolkien

There is a correlation between higher IQ and introversion. And many people incorrectly believe introversion = shyness, which is not really the case. Introverted people do not feel as comfortable with strangers, in large crowds, or making small talk.  They do much better when surrounded by smaller groups of closer friends (family, colleagues, etc.) discussing matters in depth. And then having enough downtime to recharge their batteries for the next intense period of work or conversation.

Stupidity and the complete disregard for rational or logical thought can kill you more quickly than other deadly things.

"There's always Gauss." Or there's always Mozart. Or there's always Einstein. Or there's always Shakespeare...

    Paradoxes to keep you thinking:

Nobody goes to the restaurant because it is too crowded.
Don't go near the water until you learn how to swim.
Can a man drown in the fountain of eternal life?
Your mission is not to accept the mission. Do you accept?
If I ask you out on a date, would your answer be the same as your answer to this question?
    This sentence is false.
If everything is possible, is it possible for something to be impossible?
What happens if Pinocchio says "my nose will now grow"?
If you make a new years resolution to not keep any new years resolutions would you keep it?

A human being is a part of the whole, called by us "Universe," a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest — a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. The striving to free oneself from this delusion is the one issue of true religion. Not to nourish it but to try to overcome it is the way to reach the attainable measure of peace of mind. People who have very strong feelings for something or somebody generally tend to have stronger emotional reactions - both happiness and sadness.
