Art Advisors: People who advice ( sometimes "influence" ) collectors. Read about them here:

( But I feel if a collector buys for investing, it is okay to consult an "Expert". Otherwise if he or she wants to buy a work of art on the "advise" of a person who is prejudiced, the collector is making a mistake. The work will not be his or her love but somebody else's! Your space should be yours - it should be filled with your tastes - not somebody elses'! Some advisers  - I know two personally - try to impose their will on others. They also try to manipulate the market to promote their friends - sometimes for monetary benefits. So my "ADVICE" is : consult advisors only if you want to invest in art. Otherwise go for the art works your heart and mind  goes gaga over! - Krishna)

One client is a cautious type who craves facts and figures about whom you’ve studied with, where you went to art school and how many gallery exhibitions you’ve had. Another potential patron thrives on hearing about your challenges as an artist and the way you dip into your deep well of inspiration for creative ideas. Still another just wants to chat about the beauty of your art all day long.

Successful artists know that to sell their work they must adjust to the ways individual customers buy

Collect works of emerging artists too:
Establishing relationships with galleries and dealers who have successfully nurtured and promoted emerging artists, as well as visiting contemporary art fairs and museums.

Sourcing artists responsible for pioneering new trends can be extremely rewarding financially.

Purchasing pieces from such artists needs to be done selectively - distinctive of that artist's characteristic style and a quality piece of work. It is a big mistake to buy poor quality doodles from big names. The productivity, trend leadership and promotion of that artist is also very important.

Most importantly, once you have developed your instincts, do not underestimate the intricately detailed intelligence stored in human emotion, with the above in mind. Always buy what you love!
