SCI-ART LAB

Science, Art, Litt, Science based Art & Science Communication

Sorry, we cannot collaborate with you if you come to us with closed minds!

On an on line science, art collaboration group, a discussion was started on scientific and artistic thought processes. It was started with an intention to find out each others’ view points on each field which might help lead into collaborative projects. The   artist – scientist  ratio was 95:5. Only a few scientists came forward to participate in the discussion. I went there as I was interested in knowing what artists think about science and scientists and how they deal with their work. In fact scientists went there to help artists in dealing with science while creating sci-art. But after some period, I and other scientists were deeply disappointed.

All that we said was – in our experience art was easy to create than doing scientific research. And all hell broke loose. Artists started attacking us because one artist felt this statement insulting and instigated others. He said religion was the only truth. Science is all humbug and nonsense. He also said (“the species”_ the actual word used ) scientists' thought process was no better than any ordinary person's thinking on the road! Another one supported it. One artist said only art could have success and science could never succeed anywhere! When I presented a few research theories based on facts on science and art, they not only out rightly rejected them, but also refused to even consider them. Some artists who wanted to go along with us were attacked and made to follow the colleagues in their field. All that scientists could do was shut up and maintain silence. We were really shocked.

My artist friends on my network are not like these artists. They are really good. They know how to deal with us.

Scientists are mostly introverts although now they are venturing out a little bit and interacting with the outside world. They are not used to emotionally charged atmospheres. They do their work in isolation in their labs in calm surroundings. Some of my colleagues even get surprised when I tell them I interact with the artists on a regular basis. It is really difficult to deal with things in an emotionally charged atmosphere. But the day I entered the art world I accepted this challenge. Some scientists might try to work with artists by coming down to their emotional levels to create harmony but that doesn’t mean there isn’t any difference between the working patterns in the fields of science and art.

If somebody refuses to accept the facts and closes his/her mind and is not willing to even consider them, scientists don’t waste their time on such people. Because they know facts and truth are like fire. Nobody can refuse to ignore them and sweep them under the carpet. They will burn the carpet, come out and get noticed. Science is based on facts.

What happened to people who refused scientific theories and punished scientists in the medieval period? They were proved wrong in the subsequent centuries. Could they stop science and technology from proceeding further and bring progress? Scientists knew this and they refuse to get dragged into unnecessary arguments. They hit ignore button and leave the place if they are brought under such situations. Just because some people refuse to accept the facts, science doesn’t vanish. Just because you shout, argue and silence others as you are in greater numbers, truth doesn’t disappear. The few scientists who wanted to interact with artists left the forum of the group. Is this what the artists wanted? Is this how collaborative projects proceed? Now they are wondering why we all left without having a fruitful dialogue!

But what amuses the scientists the most is even the most dedicated science critics cannot live even for a single day without utilizing the fruits of science and technology. Can s/he live without using cell phones, internet, medicines, cars, planes, houses that use latest tech. food that use scientific processing methods to take the form in which they eat, clothes, roads to name a few. They forget that all these are products of the field they batter so much!

The moment an artist mixes the colours on a pallet, s/he starts dealing with chemistry. The moment s/he starts viewing an art work, s/he starts dealing with Biology! Ignore this if you want to  but can the truth fade away?

Everybody is entitled to have his or her own opinions and beliefs but not to his or her own facts. If you bring your opinions and beliefs into scientific world, they will be dissected and the truth will be bared before you. Only if you have the courage and ability to face it, venture into the world of science and think about collaborative work. Don’t come to the scientific world with pre-conceived notions. You will be left to deal with naked truths here! Before jumping 0n the bandwagon of sci-art,  first learn  how to deal with science and the world of science in collaborative projects!

Good and bad are not limited to any field. All artists are not bad and all scientists are not good.

I am an art lover.

With aplogies to my artist friends, I put science at a slightly higher level than art because science is more difficult than art for us ordinary people to understand. Science gives us more comfort in practical terms. It satisfies several of our needs. Where will we all be without it and the people that make all this happen? It should take more brain power for people to reach that level of success in science.

I am neither a scientist nor an artist. So you can treat my comment as an unbiased one.

We artists, how stupid can we get? We don't know how to utilize the golden opportunities thrown our way. Can we get anywhere with this attitude?

I want only scientists as my friends. They are so cool!

I fully agree with Anand. Krishna, you have proven you are better than the artists in several ways.

It would be better if the artists swallow their egos and see the facts in their true colours.

This write up and the behaviour patterns of artists and scientists at the forum again endorse that scientists think rationally with the left part of thier brains and artists can use only their emotion driven right part of the brain. Aren't artists losing something here?

I am a musician and therefore an artist. I don't endorse a bit what the artists had done. Shame on you.  Artists, you have proven you are spineless.  Have religious fundamentalists taken over the forum?

DearKrishna, sorry, I am unable to visit this network frequently.

I congratulate you, my mates in the  scientific  community, for maintining dignity and silence. Silence speaks louder than words! When you encounter an unruly mob, it is better to be silent and showing them your sanity than going down their way.

The similarities between artists and scientists are in the goals and the curiosity that launches their work, the thought process are not the same, there may be overlaps and interconnections. How can the  artists argue that their thought processes are similar to those of scientists when the  differnce is as vast as Earth and the skies? Why not put a scientist and an artist in a scanner and give them the same problem to consider while in there. Compare the areas of the brain that light up? I think this has been already done. Why don't you enlighten us in this regard, Krishna?

Thank you, my artist friends, for your comments.

Otto, the number of scientists who wanted to interact with artists is low because like I said scientists are mostly introverts and not because they think artists are not worth interacting with. But  no scientist would like to go into the world of art if the type of situations created for us at the forum of collaboration are not changed.

Phillip, you brought an important point to the fore. Yes, technology was brought into this world only with innovative and creative ideas. Both creative ideas and science and technology started at the same time as siblings. But they branched out as art and science in the later period. Some people took the advantage of the differences in approaches in these two fields and created vast differences.

I thought sci-art would build a bridge between these two great fields. But instead if it creates more differences because of short sightedness of a few people, it really is an unfortunate situation.

Creative mindsets undertake real courses for interactions; a creative minds made the first stick tools & stone tool, in away that was the cornerstone and stepping-stone which enable such creators to leave the trees in search of food, then over the ages of time more creative minds improved the cutting edges on those tools, those minds learned the ways of fire, in doing so they were able to take the first steps to leave the trees with tools and fire in hand, then one day those creative minds set out a quest for ownership of the first cave.  I believe the first tool was the breaking and fashioning the stick into a tool; creating that first stick was the dawn of art and the beginning of primitive technology,  the picture writings that are named rock art and cave art came afterwards and were create in times of leaguer along with all of that I do believe  the females of the times were among the first artist.

Creative Technologies and Art go hand in-hand to believe not is like saying the words which were spoken many times, you will sail off the edge. And to leave out the sciences and say they don't have nothing to do with Art is very much like one saying! "That's because I buy my painting supplies in the store." All I can say is those persons don't see the hold picture! And you are right  science has a place with art those that think different create a void much like the Dark Ages and a time of living of living in the trees. "Somethings are set in stone and some stones can be moved around!"  At one time primitive minds move the stick and stones in doing so came a day that had fire as a tool in the taken of a cave as home; then over the passing of many ages humankind has learned new ways to rides with the flames in amazing forms  now no longer is cave named home for with the art of using sticks with the arts of mixing  stones mankind creative minds are building that is  Modern to say Arts and  Sciences  have no part  isn't smart, few things are Set in Stone.

"Best Wishes & Good Luck Moving The Stones Dr. KrishnaKumari Challa!"

The world is an individual, with the notion of the world does not exist outside of experience, and it (the individual), in particular creation. In science, religion also, all the individual and the world is a broad concept, an abstraction, as well as the universal institution. Do not pay attention to it, but his notion of All. Without you (the individual), author, or the world does not exist, nor art. Nothing! Universal consciousness, the way into the collective consciousness, it is a platitude, the so-called trap of freedom in the 21st century is opportune to every notion of freedom in art, the new Canon! Beware of that! All the individual and not just in art! (-_-)
