oldest figurine
A 60-millimeter Venus figurine which dates back 35,000 years is considered to be the oldest in the world. It suggests Palaeolithic art was far more complex than many had thought it was reported in the journal Nature.
Radio carbon dating indicates the figure, dubbed Venus of Hohie Fels, excavated from an archaeological dig in a village of same name in Southern Germany was at least 35,000 years old. Before this discovery, female imagery was entirely unknown.
The feature of the figure that will command most attention is its aggressively sexual nature, focused on the sexual characteristics of the female form. This figurine makes us think that the sexually symbolic dimension in European art has a long ancestry in the evolution of our species.

Well, "evolution" in Biology is an interesting subject. It tells us how human beings & other ancestors lived thousands of years ago & how they evolved. Some sort of primitive art originated along with primitive man & evolved with the human race. Some day we might find even older art works.

We should be astonished if we could have a view on how people lived 35000 years ago. I am also convinced that the earliest permanent settlement of dwellings is much more ancient than the earliest archaeological evidence of it which only goes back to 9000 year ago. -
