No more bon voyages from me!

Why I am stopping to wish people " bon voyage" now

No, I am not going to wish you 'bon voyage' now

Because your happy journeys could lead Earth and its people to a mauvais voyage* and how!

You can visit an exotic place and say 'wow'

But the environmentalists are ready for a row!

Travel emissions are one of the reasons for climate crisis

Pleasure trips over and over again is becoming one of the reasons for human lysis

They might cause the Earth to become a blast furnace

And might fail the crops and become hunger pernice

Reckless flying is becoming the largest contributor

To a traveller's carbon footprint in the atmosphere

AC cars, tour buses, trains and other transport moreover

Buying superfluous goods, sightseeing and disturbing exotic splendour

Hotels, dinners, waste management of unwanted visitor

Making the planet warmer and warmer

Entering tourist's name as Earth's richness swindler

Unwittingly contributing to unlimited disaster

Catastrophic droughts, floods, and severe storms

Vector-borne diseases and increasing the frequency of deadly heat waves

Unpredictable rainfall and degraded soils reducing agricultural yields

Global hunger and massive strain on freshwater supplies

Weather-related disasters and rising sea levels

Forcing millions to relocate, compounding poverty and destabilization of local economies

Rapid warming and ocean acidification threatening massive biodiversity loses,

Near-total disappearance of eco-systems devastating global lives

So if I wish someone a happy journey, it means I am wishing the whole Earth a bad trip across space

No, I am not alarmist in disguise

Putting a roadblock to economic growth and rat race

My only concern is pleasure trips shouldn't become burial grounds for future generations and their place

Like our forefathers protected and passed on a green Earth to us

We too should transfer a healthy planet to our children without fuss

Live and let live plus

Make only essential travel, no pleasure trips over and over again please!

The greatest journeys start in your mind

Where the sublime happiness is found

You can tour the entire universe for divined

Experiences without disturbing nature's treasures redlined!

You cannot take forever to mend

Your unreasonable journey ways must end

You cannot pretend to be blind

To the unprecedented pleasure thoughts that are mined!

These days everybody seems to be travelling forever. 'I travelled the entire world' people say proudly.

People are trying to show-off by counting the numbers and mentioning the places they visited.

Every other day I get a call from friends, relatives, neighbours, colleagues and everybody I know. We are going to America. Europe. Australia. China. "Pleasure trips" they announce with glee.

But as a person of science, I see a different picture here. And I am not comfortable with that.

No more bon voyages from me!
