I read atleast a hundred times in ‘advices’ and ‘life hacks’, silly things like these: For those who buy milk sachets. Please do not snip off the corner to pour the milk. That miniscule triangle of plastic escapes even the most sophisticated filters and ends up in your water body, earth, food chain. Your daily single milk sachets' tiny corner can kill upto 10 sea creatures as they ingest these but cannot digest them. This plastic remains in the fish or bird long after the creature itself is dead. It takes a 1000 years to disintegrate. Would you want that? Instead, cut your milk cover like shown below. Milk does not spill. Just needs a knack. The WHOLE sachet can be recycled responsibly.

It is all over whatsapp and facebook and other social networking sites. People are liking, upvoting and sharing it over and over again. Even on quora: Thunga M Angadi's answer to What is a life hack that you think ever...

I was really shocked. Why? Because of innocence of people.

This is what I call missing the woods for trees. People say if you cut a small triangle from a sachet, that would be harmful for animals. But do you know that the whole plastic sachet once thrown out disintegrates into very small pieces like the triangle because of the environmental conditions like sun rays and heat? All of them or the whole plastic sachets are harmful to the animals and environment, not only the small triangles cut from them.

People say recycling is good too. The process of melting down and recycling plastic produces VOC, or volatile organic compounds, fumes that can harm plant and animal life near the industrial site. The heat needed to melt plastic also generates carbon emissions, which contribute to global warming.

The same VOCs that cause plastic recycling to harm the environment can also present health threats to the people who come into contact with recycled plastics.

The Disadvantages of Recycled Plastics

The best method is avoid plastic as much as possible.

Or use biodegradable plastics like these : Researchers create water-degradable plastic combining starch and ce...

Now share this post, not the wrong one.

Thank you.
