Networking Opportunity: meet Dr. Krishna Kumari Challa - a woman who deeply fell in love with science!
She is an Indian National Science Communication Award winner.
Dr. Krishna Kumari Challa did her M.Sc. in Life Sciences and Ph.D. in Microbiology. Her area of research is toxins produced by Microorganisms in food and how to control them and protect food from these Microbes and toxins. She published several peer-reviewed research papers in science.
She is a self-taught artist who specializes in Art From Science. She is also a writer, a science communicator, a poet, a designer, a social activist and creator of two science communication networks and does several other things. She is an international science-art consultant and reviewer. She explores the relationship between Art, Literature and Science while communicating science on her network, Sci-Art Lab. She wrote more than 2000 articles on various subjects and at present writing books - both fiction and non-fiction. Although she painted Nature in water colours in childhood, she has been actively creating art - especially science based one - since 2006.
She communicates science through art and literature and published a research paper on science-art too.
Dr. Krishna is a well-known polymath and a master of several fields of creativity, including art, science, literature, and design. She creatively connects all the fields she works in to find efficient solutions to the problems humanity is facing today. Her work has a great impact on society as a whole. She uses her excellent skills in several creative fields meticulously to educate and enlighten people and remove the darkness surrounding their lives. She is trying her very best to eradicate various social evils that plague our societies.
Dr. Challa has been communicating Science for the past eighteen years. She founded and runs two science communication networks online. She participates in art shows presenting science through art, gives speeches and lectures on science in English and regional languages, and participates in TV debates related to science too. She has successfully completed more than 300 interactive science sessions both off and online, allowing people from all walks of life to participate, ask questions, discuss, debate, clear doubts, and learn things scientific. She has written more than 2000 articles on science and presented more than 12,400 scientific research reports in simple common languages to date on her networks. She created several science-art works, wrote poems on science, and answered more than 3000 questions people asked on science. She has lakhs of followers who religiously follow what she reports, her science literacy programmes, to learn high-quality science coming directly from scientific research labs and journals and are getting benefited by them.
She also guides other science communicators, scientists, journalists, writers, artists, and media people in efficiently communicating this complex subject.
Using art and literature to communicate science attracted a large number of people, even illiterates, to the subject to a great extent. Moreover, it enhanced the cultural heritage of the world as new themes of science illuminated the art world and the literature field, and science got useful aids to propagate. She handled work in various fields with ease and integrated several of them, enriching each one in the process. Millions of people are getting benefited by her education and science literacy programmes, and the world got enriched culturally and socially through this process.
She did one solo exhibition, “Cosmic Show of Science”, in Hyderabad, India in 2008, group shows in Hyderabad, Kolkatta, Jodhpur, Goa and Jaipur in India in 2009, and a group show in Copenhagen (Denmark, Europe) in 2010.She participated in Izmir Biennial in May 2011 ( Turkey) and in a group show in Italy along with Italian artists in the first week of March, 2011. She exhibited her works in the first international science-art conference in Moscow in April, 2012.

Although Dr. Challa writes stories and poems too, she mainly writes on science, science - art - literature relationships for her network.

Q: Without learning anything how could you paint pictures? How can we paint pictures?
Krishna: I think most children would paint something in their schools. They learn the basics when they are children.
After this initial training, if you want to pursue art, you can go for more advanced courses.
